Also, Apple is Evil and you are living in Steve Job's RTF.

    and... and... 4G.

    and... widgets.

Well, the fake 4G carriers are using is faster than the 3G Apple supports, so that's an ok argument.

Apple is pretty evil, but all multibillion dollar corporations are. You don't get rich by being nice. Steve jobs also seems like a jerk in all of those little e-mails he sends out to various people.

Widgets are cool, the iPhone needs an option for them!

You forgot the "Android is open and iOS is closed!!" fanboy argument :(, that's the only one that doesn't really make much sense.

It has something unique, look at all the press covering it now, and how many of us are talking about it.

Just because it's being talked about doesn't make it unique. So what is unique about it?

And people are only talking about it because it's an announcement from a huge company. Which has nothing to do with whether it will actually sell well or not.

Why? I'd love to buy some Beats headphones. Like the style of it.

if you buy headphones for the style, you shouldn't be buying pairs that cost three digits.

Enjoy the version of Android that comes on that thing out of the box. With all the HTC bloatware and Android fragmentation you'll be lucky to ever see a software update.

HTC phones get updates & always have done. What is this HTC bloatware you are talking about? If you mean HTC Sense I'll laugh at you a lot. It's a brilliant add-on to Android. In fact, I couldn't imagine Android without it.

My thoughts exactly. Reeks of collusion and I could see lawsuits flying over this.

it is not against the law in any way to give a different deal to someone else. Amazon bring more to the table than Apple and to add to it Apple strong arming has pissed a lot of people off and they want to break Apple strong hold.

4G data for tethering (probably unlimited when in 4g) as well as a better screen (Not more pixels, just sharper pixels with better color balance. Perhaps a bigger screen.)
Hmm...the display is already outstanding. I suppose it will probably have 4g, but what if it doesn't? Still upgrading sight unseen? No doubt there will be improvements, but exactly which parts they are nobody knows.

lbro, chrmjenkins, and jav6454 all looked around trying to figure out what planet the magic glowing button sent them to. What they saw looked a bit like a congested downtown, with office buildings and garbage everywhere. When they opened the door to get out, they where overwhelmed by a stench. A stench so great, even jav6454 could feel its burn.

With the computer unable to tell them the planet (silly operating system), they set off for the closest building. Getting nearer, they heard noises that sounded like a person being held captive. "jav6454, give me your leg." chrmjenkins asked. "My what?" "Your leg, just give it to him." lbro said. jav6454 detached his leg and hobbled along after them into the building. When they got inside, they saw a huge open room with a flower pot in the middle of it. "Well, there isn't anything in here. Let's go." jav6454 said, still wanting his leg back so he could kick lbro with it.

Just then there was a squeaking sound from the rafters. They all looked up to see the biggest mouse they had ever seen. chrmjenkins peed himself, lbro fainted, and jav6454 fell over. The mouse jumped down and started to move toward lbor. chrmjenkins, having only just met him, did not want lbro to die by the teeth of a giant mouse.

Then chrmjenkins jumped up, grabbed jav6454's leg and started to viciously beat the giant mouse with it. It only took 14 hits before the mouse was no more. It vanished into a puff of trans-dimensional smoke. Now feeling quite good about his physical abilities, he gave jav6454 his leg back and together they dragged lbro back to the ship. Once inside, chrmjenkins pushed the magic glowing button. For he did not want to go into any more of the office buildings.

When the ship came back into being, they all looked out the window. lbor recognizing the planet shouted "Mammariea! Mammariea! We are finally here! Take the ship down!" Down went the ship though the clouds.

Eldiablojoe was a wolf. This is the start of a 24 hour limited night.

Let's be clear... "Android" is an OS from Google that you can find on dozens of phones from many manufacturers.

Apple knows they can't compete with that. And they're not. Marketshare is not a goal. For instance... Android has more marketshare... now what?

It's Mac vs Windows all over again. Windows is crushing Macs 10 to 1. Dell and HP have sales that dwarf the Mac. But is Apple really in trouble with the Mac?

Apple sells phones... and quite a lot of them. 18 million iPhones last quarter... and 16 million in the previous quarter. Any other manufacturer would kill for those numbers.

If iPhone sales drop to ZERO... then we can talk about Apple rethinking their strategy. Until then... Apple will continue to sell hundreds of thousands of phones every day... further positioning themselves away from bankruptcy.

Indeed - Apple make money from the sale of iphone hardware whereas Google will only take a percentage.

However, Google's plan is to control OS's because they then make money from their App store and adverts

Apple identified this last year and thus released the Ad-Sense scheme for devs to tempt them to use Apple's App Store over Googles.

Drive arrays can easily exceed 10 Gbps - even with spinning hard drives. Today a 2 SSD drive RAID 0 array can hit 10 Gbps with consumer-grade drives.

Single drives faster than TBolt already exist - 12 Gbps SSD drive (http://www.fusionio.com/products/iodriveduo/) 48 Gbps SSD drive (http://www.fusionio.com/products/iodriveoctal/).

TBolt devices haven't even hit the market, but TBolt is already too slow for many uses.

Ah, I completely forgot about PCI-Express based SSDs. I kept thinking about 6Gbps SATA SSDs.

Also, "SSD drive" is redundant :).

    Interesting:

Apple sues on 'look and feel', whereas Samsung sues on core technological patents. I always assume it'd be the other way around...

No-one wins here either way, its just crap for us consumers.

Testing doesn't mean it is definitely coming. Apple is going to weigh all it as a business opportunity or not.

T-Mobile could mean another 3-6 million phones in a year. If it is a simple hack of an AT&T phone and easy to implement, it might be worth Apple's effort.

Besides, what WILL happen to T-mobile's frequencies? The HW would have to be modified/upgraded/changed to support AT&T, right? Those cell towers won't switch overnight to AT&T freqs for no cost.

What really would make sense would be an AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile WORLD phone. That would make the most sense to me.

It came out yesterday. Not a couple of hours ago. I stream Sirius radio on the weekdays at work and I notice a difference in the battery usage.

No one has it seems. There's reports of a few people running the beta, but it seems isolated. I think it was a release in name only. Hopefully we'll see something around MW in Jan? Who knows.

Has anyone been getting updates at all from VMware? I sent in my request for Discussion Forums (a while back), but haven't gotten access.

I'd pay the full MobileMe $99/year price if I could sync all of the DVD movies I ripped (which currently fill up the 2TB hard drive on my iMac) to use in this fashion.

I'm suuuuuure Apple would allow that!

EDITED to add: Yes, these are MY movies. Ripped them to stream to my AppleTV.

Wait, I thought the show was cancelled, then it wasn't, then it is, so what is actually going on?

The show hasn't been officially cancelled. Before today, they shut down production for the last 8 episodes for this season. Today, they fired Sheen and said they are unsure if the show will go on. Knowing Hollywood, they'll go on with a replacement. Oddly, Sheen replaced Michael J. Fox on his show when Fox quit and it went on for another 2 or 3 seasons.

You guys are to pessimistic. I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple add a matte finish screen to the IMAC or even a smaller bezel. After all just sticking a faster chip in it is not going to cut it.

It's actually 2.4 grams, which may not be a huge difference per se but in a product with such tight parts tollerance to me suggest differences in parts used. It may be the white casing, it may be a reshaped chassis or even a different chip. iFixit will tell.

Thanks for catching that. 2.4g yes.

USB 2.0 is definitely not fast enough to saturate a hard drives speed, it's very limiting.
